Biked 18.69 miles in 1:16 with 1,033 ft elevation change  Aaron rode the same route right after I got home, only he did it 3mph faster than me.  My hip is still weak and causes disruption in my daily routine of walking, squatting to pick things up, and standing on one leg at a time to put shoes or clothing on.

24 degrees this morning at 7 am when I hopped on the bike.  Sun came up over Standley Lake around mile 4 (SO beautiful). Despite wearing warm socks and biking booties, my feet started to feel cold around mile 8.  After a downhill in the shade near mile 10, my feet were painfully frozen.  I literally cried out loud three different times as I pedaled the remaining 8 miles home.  When I got home I cried again as I soaked my frozen feet in warm water.  My 3yo daughter came in to soak her feet with me and offer words of comfort as my feet regained feeling.

Reminded me of the time I raced in Ames, IA for the NCAA Cross Country National Championships in November, 2000.  It was 4 degrees (-19 windchill).  My eyelashes, hands, nose, forearms and most painfully, my FEET were frozen.  After the race I went to the rental car to warm up and screamed as I regained feeling in my feet.  Frozen feet are really not my favorite thing.

Nan, that's so sad. I hate to see you cry. Why must you punish yourself like that?

You've been having a rough go of it lately, with injuries, not feeling well, and now frozen feet!

How is the sugar avoidance going?

Oh ouch ouch ouch so sorry it was crying territory, yikes! I have never experienced frozen feet like that, sounds terrible! What a sweet little girl you have, though! My daughter is two and she likes to grab my hands and "help" me touch my toes and stretch and then tells me what a good job I am doing--makes me so happy!

Frozen feet, , ouch, , sounds so painful! But I agree w/ April, so sweet of your little one to empathize with you!

Hey, I just read you are doing no sugar for FEB too!!!! YEAH!!! The more the merrier to our cause of health! How's it going so far?

From Samantha Dean-Howard on Wed, Feb 03, 2010 at 06:27:54 from 78.32.130.9

OUCHIE ouch ouch Nan thats not nice is it, I have bad circulation and I get cold hands and feet its not nice at all maybe letting them warm on there own rather than the warm water ouch !

Way to go on the cycling though in the cold, you really are digging it, but I am so sorry for your hip its not nice at all being a runner and being injured, Have you tried swimming yet?

From Nan Kennard on Wed, Feb 03, 2010 at 13:49:43 from 174.51.250.151

Burt-I know! Why DO I punish myself? I should really try not to huh.

Carolyn-Yeah, its been a rough start to 2010 but the sugar avoidance is helping me feel a little better mentally, at least.

April-Kids are awesome huh. They make life SO much more meaningful and fun.

Amber-No sugar Feb is going great so far. Hasn't been too difficult yet, and I am starting to feel better.

Sam-Yeah, I have bad circulation in my feet too. My feet are ALWAYS cold if I don't have three pairs of socks on or shoes to keep the warmth in.

I do enjoy biking, but can't stand swimming. I wish I could bear it, but its just like time goes a slow as molasses in January every time I try. I am not a swimmer.
