Easy 5 around the neighborhood.

Went to my massage therapist last night for some deep tissue trigger point massage on my legs.  He did not hold back; had me wincing in pain many times.  We found a nice big knot in both hammys and my glutes were super tight too.  So I was pretty sore on my run this morning, but I stretched for quite a while and am already feeling better.  I'll rest tomorrow, run easy and short Friday, and I'm sure I'll feel great by Saturday.

Wow, you have really fast times in all your disaplins! I'm impressed! How often do you massage? I was told it can be good for recovery... do you recommend it?

Yeah, massage is great for injury prevention and recovery. I get a massage once or twice a month when I feel I really need it. I also ask my husband to trigger point any knots I find in my legs from time to time. The foam roller helps keep my quads pretty loose, but there is nothing like a good deep tissue massage to really get the kinks out.

Okay, cheers, Nan... maybe I should go for the deep massage...

I can't help notice your marathon time. I'd like to someday run a sub 3hrs... It's impressive you did it on your first attempt! Do you have any tips for improving marathon times? So far my PB is 3 hrs 34min.

Cheers, Aaron from Singapore

Aaron, I think my biggest secret is the fact that I have worked for years and years to run fast 1 mile to 10k times. The faster you can run the shorter distances, the faster you will run your marathon. And the way to bring down those times is to do shorter, faster intervals either on the track or a measured course. 6-10 800 M repeats at goal 5k race pace, for example. Or mile repeats at goal 10k race pace. I also run 4-8 mile tempo runs at 10k to marathon race pace. Keep reading the blog and getting workout ideas from other fast runners...you'll start to get faster as you implement things you read.

Wow, okay, that sounds great. I guess it's a matter of putting this into practice and over time will get faster. I guess there's no way around it... gotta practice the speed.

Thanks for that, Nan... will start implimenting this. Cheers!
