18 miles in 6:41 pace

Progression run, started at 7:40 pace and just kept bumping up the pace gradually.  It took my legs a few miles to actually start feeling good, but I finally loosened up after 5 miles or so and the pace started to feel much smoother.  Perfect long run conditions, clear shoulder on the roads with no ice, 43 degrees and overcast.  Took a Power Gel with 12 oz of water at mile 13 and drank another 12 ounces of EFS at mile 16.  Energy and hydration felt great!  Garmin says 700 ft of elevation change.  And the best part....my last three miles in 5:59 average pace.  Yay!!

Great Job Nan. I love EFS. I have used the recovery drink for about 3 months now, and like it much better than the sugar free Costco "slim-fast" I used to use. I tried the vitamins for a while too, while I think they were good, I don't think they helped that much more than my cheap multi-vitamin. I haven't yet figured out how to use the "gels" because I don't carry a fuel belt and they are just too big to carry around. I think that when I start training for my 50th birthday ultra-event I will probably use a fuelbelt and use the gel.

I am excited about your upcoming race, you have been training so well, and consistently, I am sure you are going to rock it and get some sponsorship out of it.

So I was playing around on your Garmin Connect map. I just want to know why you were running in the middle of the road? Also, you run through a couple of trees.

From allie on Sat, Jan 15, 2011 at 15:43:55 from 174.23.123.195

way to go! wow -- that is one mighty fast long run. you are so ready to tear it up at houston. i am very excited for you!

burt - don't tell her i told you this, but it also appears that she ran through a canal and didn't stop at any red lights.

From Burt on Sat, Jan 15, 2011 at 15:48:02 from 72.223.84.236

And once she crossed the road not in the cross walk! Ssshh! Don't say anything.

Hey, you seen this?

And last I checked, you recently beat many of the ladies above you.

From Burt on Sat, Jan 15, 2011 at 18:12:35 from 72.223.84.236

Looks like you tied Sally Meyerhoff. I'll have you know she only beat me by 1 minutes and 3 seconds.

Thanks you guys! I'm getting WAY excited for Houston too!!

Bonnie-EFS is pretty much the BOMB. A good friend of mine connected me with the owner of First Endurance and talked him into giving me discounted product, so now I can afford to drink Ultragen after every run and it REALLY helps with my recovery (don't worry folks, its 100% USADA approved.) Word on the street is that they are going to start packaging their "liquid shot" in 100 calorie packets soon too...which will be nice for us runners. The 400 calorie flask works for triathletes and ultra runners, but its kind-of a pain for the marathon. I still took it during Baltimore though...just duct taped those puppies to my water bottles.

Burt-I don't recall running "through" trees, but I did pee on a couple.

Allie-WHAT? How did you know I ran that red light? I almost got hit by a lady in a van too. She was CA-RAZY.

Jon-Bonnie already beat you to the punch on sending me that list. Thanks for the double send though. Its a solid list and Kara Goucher isn't even on it yet. I got my work cut out for me, huh?

Burt-Three comments...really? So because you raced Sally Meyerhoff once, are you implying that you are a short 1:03 behind me too? Aaron is jealous. He was hoping to stay within a minute of me in last weeks 5K, but it was not to be.

From Burt on Sun, Jan 16, 2011 at 00:41:08 from 72.223.84.236

Forth comment: No need to look at what distance the race was. That's not important. Just know that I was a short 1:03 behind her.

Fifth comment: What do I have a crush on Sally or something? Look at my first comment to you here: http://nan.fastrunningblog.com/blog-09-23-2010.html

Two hundred and ninety seventh comment: Let's see, Jillian Michaels, Slattery, Meyerhoff, Hasselhoff, but you're my favorite Bonnie.
